Georgia State Law Magazine & Bobby Lee Cook

Just received copies of Georgia State's Law Magazine which has one of my photos on the cover of Bobby Lee Cook, aka the inspiration for "Matlock". Don't you just love his suit! He was such a great guy, interesting and full of charm. Took me and my assistant out for lunch afterwords to a local place on Main Street, where everyone seemed to know him. He is a star in that town.

Newfest Film Festival

In early June I set up shop and took portraits of people participating in NYC's lgbt film festival, known as Newfest. It celebrated its 23rd anniversary this year and screened some great new films. I worked out of the Logo Lounge aka The Cell across the street from the SVA Theater on 23rd St in an upstairs area that was private and had a cool chalkboard wall. I met so many wonderful people and love this series. I just put up a new portfolio on my site from the week if you want to see more. Check out Newfest's site here. Included here are directors Tina Mabry, Kyle Thomas Coker and Brian Harris Krinski; actors Derrick Middleton, Aidan Schultz-Meyer, Brian Seibert and Holly Lynn Ellis; filmmaker & photographer Katrina Del Mar, Barney's creative director Simon Doonan; and three time world champion figure skater Johnny Weir. Quite a group.

Today marks the 47th birthday of Gina Gershon and I wanted to post some shots I had taken of her. Love her roles in almost everything she's done, but she'll always be Crystal Conners from Showgirls to me. Happy birthday gorgeous.

Lions of The Trial Bar

These are the tearsheets from the March cover story of the ABA Journal. They asked us to go in tight and to light dramatically, which was great. I traveled alone, found an assistant to help out in each place and set up a seamless in their offices. I really enjoyed this job and hope to do more for them. I love the design, text, layouts and shots they chose for these guys. Bobby Lee Cook, the last guy here, is my favorite. He was the lawyer that inspired the TV character "Matlock". Such a wonderful face. It belongs on money...

Living Legends of Law

Last month, I did a job for the ABA Journal, photographing lawyers for the March cover story "7 Over 70". The feature was about some of the nations top trial lawyers who are all over 70 and still practicing today. I shot Bernie Nussbaum in NY, Joe Jamail and Richard 'Racehorse' Haynes in Houston, Bobby Lee Cook in Summerville, GA and Jim Neal in Nashville. Some interesting facts about them: Bernie was Clinton's White House Counsel from '92-'93; Joe won the largest settlement ever awarded in the world (10.5 billion against Texaco); Bobby Lee Cook was the inspiration for the television series "Matlock"; Jim represented Elvis' doctor after his death and Jon Landis after the "Twilight Zone" helicopter deaths; and Racehorse has kept all of his 40 capitol punishment clients from dying. Stella

So as many of you probably are aware of, Facebook is a great way to socialize online and network with old friends, classmates, and business colleagues. I've been trying to build up my friend list with cool creative people and having fun seeing glimpses into their lives. It's fascinating I think. And has proven already to be good for business as I'm doing a shoot on Tuesday which is happening all because of Facebook. Anyway, I befriended David Wain, Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black on the site whom I had shot for Comedy Central's ad campaign for their short lived show. They still tour and have each done their own thing to great success. David just directed Role Models which I can't wait to see. These guys humor you either love or hate and fortunately for me it's love. I'll post the DVD cover soon too, which has them riding a triple bicycle against clouds...now done. The campaign was fun, 7 sets built in studio, great art directing and cool funny guys in suits. I'd like to do more stuff like this.

Here Little Ducky...

Looking at those recent drawings and their monster like features made me remember this shot of a rather creepy little stuffed animal that was a prop on my Comedy Central Stella shoot. I shot it close up at the art director's request. I remember her saying that a puppet maker from Sesame Street had made it. Funny. I also am posting a tearsheet that ran in Penthouse with an image from that set up.

Rockon Platon!

I just got back from two weeks in New Mexico, where I took a week long workshop with the photographer Platon. I feel privileged. He is not only one of the best portrait shooters in the world, but also a great teacher and a super cool person. I have a new man crush. Check out his site, esp his Greek stuff... platonphoto.com Here are some of the shots I took from the week. We worked in his style photographing each other with only one light against white seamless paper. This was at the Santa Fe Photography Workshops, where I taught last year. I love that place. Andy Cohen, SVP Programming and Production, Bravo

I just found out that my friend Joe Delate is the wardrobe stylist on Make Me a Supermodel. What a gig. I have been hooked since it went on the air. Andy, above is one of the executive producers on the show and a major force over at Bravo. He's also hosting those best of network specials for the channel. Andy also has a great blog here. I photographed him for a Red Cross campaign that I did in 2006 along with Chris Botti, Elisabeth Rohm and Bruce Bozzi. Nice guy. Would LOVE to be a guest photographer on one of his shows.

Signe, Fashion Stylist

Here's an old shot of my friend Signe, a fashion stylist here in New York, that I just love and recently came across. We grew up in the same town, Huntington, Long Island, but did not know each other until meeting on a shoot. Stunning beauty. Could model herself. Check out her work at signe-yberg.com. She is very talented.

Callie

Just found this overlooked shot from last march shot during Norman Jean Roy's workshop in Santa Fe and added it to my site. Love it. Awkward in a wonderful way and in your face. Makes me want to stare and look away at the same time. She also has a bit of a Bowie eye going on, not in color, but tone, her left iris has a very dark area that surrounds the pupil, which also adds to things. And that little gap in her upper lip. Beautiful. She works for Norman as his in-house retoucher in LA and is a very talented photographer herself. We'll definitely see more of her.

Patricia, American Express Executive

Another nice shot from my recent American Express shoot. I had a few of the executives sit on an apple box and try to lean forward on their knees, which resulted in both of these interesting shots. Patricia looks like a completely new woman since I photographed her last year. Something has put a spark in her eye.
